All other types of holdings will give penalties (lower income and lower soldiers). Normally, if you play as feudal lords, you can only have castle holdings. Simply saying, castle yields most soldiers, city most income, and temple in between. There are four types of holdings in CK2: castle, city, temple, and tribe.
